Internal communications management for RAC

Blue Heron led internal communications for RAC's Roadside Division, developing and managing employee communications for their patrols and call centre staff.

A key task was to increase employee engagement from across the business for the annual staff survey. Our approach, including a countdown communications plan, manager and staff briefings and use of e-communication tools, resulted in the highest ever response rates for the survey. A further plan to engage staff with the post-survey action plan was praised and adopted as a model across the rest of the RAC business.

We also reviewed the cost-effectiveness of existing employee communications activities and recommended budget savings which more than paid for the cost of the assignment.

Our advice to the senior management team and the HR Director on a range of communications issues and business projects was highly valued. We supported the HR Director on the recruitment of a new permanent Internal Communications Manager, interviewed the preferred candidate and left them with the legacy of an improved employee communications function.

We developed a new employee recognition system and developed the concepts and plans for the annual employee conference. We also produced a range of tactical communications materials, including several editions of the colleague magazine, as well as raising awareness of new parts of the business, individual change projects and new legislation
